The time when a clear division existed between those who desired to protect nature and those who advocated the unrestricted exploitation of natural resources is past. Brasileiro Specialty Coffees uses environmental management techniques to organize human activities so as to minimize possible impacts on the environment. This organization ranges from the choice of the best crop management techniques to compliance with legislation and the correct allocation of human and financial resources. The company needs to use natural resources in an intelligent manner, removing only that which can be replaced, in a sustainable production system.

All farms have legal and permanent reserves that serve as sanctuaries for birds and other animals, in order to increase the habitat of native fauna and increase biodiversity. The family is implanting environmental projects that aim to cover 30% of the area of the farms with native vegetation.

Monitoring of pests and diseases is regularly conducted. Only crop protection products permitted by the World Health Organization are used, the application of which is fully monitored by a traceability system that controls re-entry into sprayed fields. Brasileiro Specialty Coffees takes special care to minimize possible impacts on the environment and on the health and safety of workers.

All the farms have implemented programs to reduce water consumption, including the recycling of the water used for washing and separating coffee. This liquid has a high nutritional value and, after appropriate treatment, is used in the fertigation of the coffee trees themselves.
